The cost of assisted living facilities has risen by 13% in the past two years, according to a survey. Nursing homes have raised their prices by 7% over the same time span.
The same survey finds that the average daily cost of an assisted living facility is about $108 per day, according to the 2008 long term care cost study, which was released by Prudential Financial on Monday.
Average rates for private nursing homes have risen to $79,810 per year and the price of semi-private rooms are about 11% less than private rooms.
Prudential teamed up with LifeCare to conduct their survey of 1,613 long-term care operators from November 2007 to January 2008.
Now, what's interesting to me is the fact that while nursing home costs continue to rise, the quality of care tends to go down and down! Why is that?
Where is all of this extra money going? It certainly doesn't sound like it is going to towards training qualified staff members.
The more I read about nursing homes these days, the more frightened I get for their residents. Nursing home abuse is more prevalent than any time before. If you suspect that your loved one may be the victim of nursing home abuse, contact a nursing home abuse attorney today.
