A nursing home in Carollton that was sued for neglect by the attorney general's office has passed only one inspection in eight years, according to state records.
Brookhaven came under fire earlier this year after the death of one of its residents was attributed to nursing home neglect. Records show that the resident died during a power outage when a poorly trained staff member left her alone in a hot room without oxygen.
However, the attorney general's office isn't asking that Brookhaven be shut down, but state regulators will include this event into their review when relicensing comes up.
Doug Elliot, Brookhaven's administrator, declined to comment on the suit, which was filed in a district court.
Court papers didn't name the nurse who is currently being charged with nursing home neglect.
According to reports, at around 3:00 a.m. on April 10, Brookhaven lost power after a storm cut out the electricity in the area. Three hours later, the nurse who is being accused of nursing home neglect went into the woman's room and saw her thrashing around in her bed.
The nurse told investigators that she did not know that the woman couldn't breathe. The woman was found dead at 7 the next morning.
